So, actually, the story is totally misleading. Typical media. The call was dealt with on the first attempt (as you'd expect), but because "goodbye" was not mentioned, they thought they were being messed around.
Just goes to show. Be polite and remember your training folks! It's polite to say goodbye when you complete a call.
